Troubleshooting Salesforce Pro Suite: Why New Fields Are Not Visible to Your Users

Oct 28, 2024

If you've found yourself adding new fields in Salesforce Pro Suite, only to discover that your end users can't see them, you're not alone. This can happen when the page layout on your account object doesn’t match up with what end users are viewing. This visibility issue showed up with recent Pro Suite updates, but the good news is that there's a straightforward fix.

In this post, I’ll guide you through identifying and solving this layout discrepancy. You'll learn exactly how to adjust layout assignments to ensure your new fields are visible to your end users, without any hassle.

Why Page Layout Discrepancies Happen

With Salesforce’s recent updates, you might find that the default layout for your account object links to a "Commerce Layout" by default, affecting user visibility. This issue often arises if multiple layouts are configured and assigned to different profiles, sometimes including commerce-specific settings even if you’re not using them.

Step-by-Step Solution

Use the step-by-step guide below, or you can 👀watch it HERE.

  1. Access the Layout Settings:

    • Navigate to the Accounts app.
    • Click on any Account record.
    • Click on the gear button in the upper right and choose “Edit Account Page.”
    • This step will help identify if a commerce layout is assigned in place of your standard layout.
  2. Review Layout Options:

    • Click on the field section where the Account fields show up.
    • Click View all layouts - In the panel on the right side, there is a section that says Assign Page Layouts.
    • If a Commerce Layout is assigned to the System Administrator Profile, it could be why your view differs from your users.
  3. Change the Layout Assignment:

    • Click Edit Assignment.
    • Click on the layout for the profile you want to change. In this case it's the Commerce Layout NEXT TO the System Administrator profile.
    • Change it by clicking the drop down under Page Layout To Use: and for most users, selecting Account Layout for the System Administrator profile will align your view with end-users.
    • Save your changes.
  4. Verify the Update:

    • Return to your account record. Hint: If the layout doesn't update immediately, try a hard refresh by toggling the display density in your profile settings. (Click your Profile icon at the top right and switch to the Display Density to whichever option is not already selected)

Additional Tips

This fix should resolve any visibility issues between admin and user views. If you manage multiple layouts, feel free to adjust profiles based on your specific team needs. Different layouts can be useful, such as a dedicated admin layout with added system fields or tailored layouts for departments like marketing or sales.
